The Online Writing at Diné College is a one-stop-shop for students, instructors, staff, or community members to find resources to help with any aspect of writing. Whether you are seeking guidance with a class assignment or need help drafting documents for work, the online writing lab strives to connect you with the resources you need – when you need them.
Mission
The mission of Diné College’s Online Writing Lab is to connect learners throughout the college community with resources to help with any element of writing, for writers at any skill level. These resources include detailed instructional materials covering an array of different topics – from grammar questions and sentence construction, to best practices in writing thesis statements, citing academic sources, or crafting research papers. In addition to these permanent resources, the Online Writing Lab also connects learners with online tutors who can answer questions or provide consultations in real time.
Message From Our Director
As the oldest tribal college in the United States, Diné College is a unique institution tasked with supporting the Navajo people as they pursue their higher education goals. Although we recognize the significance of the Navajo language in all aspects of life on the Navajo Nation, we also acknowledge that a firm understanding of the elements of English writing is essential for academic and career success.
Our Online Writing Lab relies on the Diné traditional living system, Sa’ah Naaghai Bik’eh Hozhoo, to guide students through the fundamentals of written English. This includes the Diné Philosophy of Education, which we use to introduce and reinforce the tools necessary to develop strong writing:
Nitsáhákees (Thinking)
Nahat’á (Planning)
Iiná (Doing/Writing)
Sihasin (Reflecting/Revising)
The Online Writing Lab is committed to developing the best resources for instructors and learners. If you have questions or suggestions about making this a better resource, feel free to contact us here.
